I've thought often lately how much I'd like a mid-arm machine. I'm looking at the HQ Sweet Sixteen because it is a sit down machine and it's not humongous. It has to fit in my 8' by 10' sewing room along with all my other crap sewing supplies. I won't be getting one any time soon though.
However, I'm doing pretty well on my little Lily 550 domestic machine (if I do say so myself).
The husband took the boy shopping and to the park today so I could have some sewing time. Lily and I are having fun. The problem is that I have gotten further than I expected and I don't know how I want to quilt the other areas yet. So I'm taking a tea and chocolate break while I ponder how to proceed from here.

You did a great job. I particularly like those little circles. I still can't master those!
I had a Lily 545 (I think) until I wore the feed dogs smooth (!)... Loved that machine. Then I had a Platinum 7something... and I caved and bought a HQ16 in Houston in 2009.
OMGoodness. I quilted an entire twin-sized graduation quilt between 7-11pm on Friday night. I'm not kidding. Granted, it was not detailed quilting, but STILL. When you're not ramming a quilt through the harp of the machine, it's SO MUCH MORE PLEASANT.
They say they don't finance machines that little, but they did for me. I was able to get it to a payment I could manage for a very low rate, and I'll have it paid off next month (15 months early).
I have LOVED my HQ. It has completely revolutionized my quilting and my skill has improved by leaps and bounds. Straight out of the box I did some of the very best quilting of my life -- so much SPACE! So much better. So very happy.
(And I LOVED quilting on my home machines. I just wanted to be able to stretch out, if you know what I mean... And not dork my shoulders by fighting with the small harp.)
YOu are doing fantastic!!
I should say you're doing just fine! I think I'm going to end up with an HQ, too...I want a higher end model, but I just can't ever see me justifying that expense. My problem is I don't have any room for it either...
