Lunch Bag

I have been wanting to make myself a lunch bag for the days I work at my LQS. I found this tutorial by Ayumi on the Pink Penguin blog. It is very similar to what I had in mind so I decided to give it a try!

It measures about 9" wide by 7.5" tall (not including handles) by 5" deep. It is a little smaller than I expected, but I'm going to use it a couple of times before I decide if I want to make a slightly larger version.

It has a drawstring cover.

And it is fully lined inside the bag, but the cover is not lined.

I didn't read the tutorial carefully enough to realize that it would have raw edges inside the cover. I had already cut my cover fabric when I did realize it, so I just zig zagged these edges. I think it will be fine, but if I make another, I'll cut this piece a bit larger so that I can do a double fold to hide these raw edges. Or I may take the time to figure out how to make a lined cover.

There are no pockets inside or outside, but I don't mind. Pockets are nice, but they are extra work and I don't think they are really necessary in every bag. I'm just going to put my lunch in this so I don't need pockets.

The tutorial is pretty basic. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner because every step is not spelled out for you in detail. I've made a lot of bags so I don't need to be told every little thing in each step. I didn't have any trouble following along with each step, but I can imagine that a beginner might need a bit more instruction and detail than is provided.

How cute! I love your choice of fabrics! Thanks for the link. I think my daughter would like one of these.

Very nice! I like that it's got that drawstring cover. I often wish my lunchbag was covered. Nice going and thanks for the pattern review.
