Throw Me in the Briar Patch

My son and husband are preparing to go to Boy Scout Summer Camp next week. Son will be working on several merit badges, one being the First Aid merit badge. He had to put together a first aid kit to take with him.

They purchased a basic kit then began adding the things he needed which weren't included in the purchased kit. However, as you can see by the rubber band, the zipper on the kit didn't even make to camp before breaking. So Husband asked, "Do you think you can make a bag for this first aid kit?"

My answer was,  "OF COURSE, I can make a bag. What did you have in mind?" He wanted a simple drawstring bag that was about twice as large as the first aid kit. He chose a solid red fabric from my stash and asked that I put the white cross on both sides of the bag as well as our last name on the bottom.

Done and done! They were so impressed that I could whip up a bag so quickly and that it "looks so good!" I'm not sure if I should have done it so quickly or so well the first time. I might be stuck making more bags for them now. Oh well ... throw me in the briar patch! I love to make bags!

Since they are going off to camp next week, I am also busy preparing for my week home alone. I'm actually getting giddy with anticipation of all the sewing I can potentially get done while they are gone. I've also been looking at my calendar for next week wondering what I have scheduled that I can reschedule or cancel so that I can sew more. I don't know if you will hear much out of me next week or not.

Lynn,

I found your blog several months ago from another blog and have loved looking at your work. Your talented like your mom. I was just wondering how your mom is doing? Rod and I have purchased a house in the Bham area near Matt so hopefully I can see her when we finally get settled.

Love the bag! You did a great job whipping that up. Enjoy all your free time sewing while they are gone.

Okay, first, I love that you just whipped out this bag. I love that it impressed them so much. Isn't that fun to do?! And I know how you feel when you're giddy with excitement this way. I have felt it! Have a great time enjoying your personal space!
