My art group met yesterday. We did an exercise where we each created two versions of the same design. One using warm colors and one using cool colors. I cheated a bit by using only muslin backgrounds for both (is muslin warm or cool?) and I used black for the "trunks" of my trees because I didn't have any scraps large enough in any other colors. I don't know if these will get any more finished than they are now, but it was a fun exercise. The idea came from Lyric Kinard's book
Art + Quilt: Design Principles and Creativity Exercises.

fun! I like your funky trees - they make me happy.
So how do you think the difference between warm and cool works? What if you put a warm tree on a cool turquoise background?
muslin can be warm or cool - depending on how creamy yellow or bright cool white is is - and what it is next to.
Thanks for sharing!
