Roof and Insulation Work Begins Today

The old roof is coming off today. We'll hopefully get the new roof tomorrow. They also started pulling out the moldy, falling down insulation in the attic space.

What is all that black stuff? Guano! Bat poop! Words are inadequate to express the grossness of this image. We are getting spray foam insulation to replace the old fiberglass. Along with a new properly installed roof, this insulation will, they claim, seal all the cracks so that bats can't get in to the attic next year.

I have been following your bat situation cringing for you as I remember me hiding in the bathroom as my mom and brother, tennis rackets in hand, got rid of the occasional bat in our house.
Thank heavens you are getting a new roof. I am so relieved. SO relieved! YAY!!

Wow! That must feel really good to get that taken care of! When we lived in Ohio, we had a 100-year-old barn that bats lived in. They really didn't bother us, so we let them be. They all hung on this one beam across the whole length of the barn. There was this huge pile of bat guano that accumulated under it. At least it was all in one nice neat row. Easily stepped over. My husband scooped it up with a shovel and put it in a wheelbarrow. A friend of ours begged for it to use as fertilizer for his hops (he makes beer). We gave it to him. He said it was the best crop of hops he ever had. We were happy to oblige!

Congrats on the new roofing and insulation! Spray foam lives up to its promises. Like it and rockwool better than that gross fiberglass stuff.

Love your landscaping.
