New Zip Bag for Me

Toward the end of last year I received two fun Color Wheel fabrics in my shop, Color Wheel Pink and Color Wheel Green. I used the green one and some gray Essex Linen to make this fun bag.

I hand quilted the exterior bag pieces before assembling the bag and I love how it turned out! Now I want to make another one with the pink version of this fabric.

New Pillow :: A Finish

I turned a mistake into a new pillow.

New flannel star pillow

It measures 16" by 16" with an envelope back.

This star was originally made as the center for my Flannel Plaid Star Quilt. However, I seriously miscalculated and this star was way too small for the center of the quilt. I just threw into a bin and made a correct sized center star for the quilt. When I was cleaning my office recently I found this block and decided to turn it into a new pillow for my house. All that was required was a little simple quilting and making the envelope back from some scrap flannel.

We really needed a new pillow too!

Fun, New Products

I have been seeking out some different things to carry in my shop. One that I am currently excited about are "Bundles" from Laser Cut Quilts. These bundles are the full size pattern plus all of the applique pieces already printed onto fusible web, grouped by the fabric they go on. All you have to do is pick your fabric, cut the fusible apart into the various groups, fuse to the back of your fabric, cut out the pieces, put them where they go according to the pattern then fuse in place. You do still need to stitch everything down but that can be done with the quilting if you prefer.

Gone Quilting Pattern Only - this is just the full size pattern - no fusible or fabric included.

Laser Cut Quilts also offers kits and I have a few of those. The kit includes the full size pattern and all of the fabric for the applique. The applique pieces are already cut out for you from the various fabrics and have fusible web already on them. All you have to do is peel the paper off the back and fuse the pieces where they go. You do have to provide your own background fabric and binding fabric.

Coral Canyon kit

Coral Canyon Happy Camper Kit - fabrics used are the exact ones shown on the pattern

Happy Camper Pattern Only - this is just the full size pattern - no fusible or fabric included.

These are really fun and easy to make! You don't even have to sew at all if you have a good quilter you can hire to finish it for you.

Splendid Split Stars Progress

Whew! These blocks are easy, just squares, half square triangles and quarter square triangles, using just three fabrics per block, but the fabric placement is critical and so easy to turn the units between the design wall and the sewing machine!

I still have to sew all the blocks together and wanted to do that on Sunday afternoon, but I got one set of blocks sewn together wrong! It took me half an hour to figure that out and to figure out which set was wrong. So instead of sewing the blocks together I spent my Sunday afternoon ripping apart the incorrect set of blocks and resewing them. Oh well! I love the way it looks though.

I still have several copies of the pattern available: Splendid Split Stars pattern

Unfortunately, I don't have anymore kits left right now. I am planning to make up some more but will have to wait until my batik order arrives and I don't know exactly when that will be. The shipping issue is some better at the moment but not perfect and certainly not as accurate or fast as it used to be. When the kit is back in stock it will be listed in the Kits section on my website.

I have lots of other great kits listed in the Kits section so if you are in the market for a quilt kit you can click the link and check them out.

Crimson Tweed Update

I am slowly making progress getting this one quilted.

I started with the snowflake block. After that I moved to the right and did the block above the tree. Then the tree block. Now I am working on the triangles block right below the tree. I got to sit and work on this for two days last week and made good progress those two days. I still have a long way to go but I am happy with how it is turning out so far.

Charity Finish and Tried a New Ruler

 I finished this quilt recently.

I used some scraps of older Kim Diehl fabrics and the Cats Cradle ruler from Creative Grids.

I tried several different layouts of the blocks and blank squares. I went with this one because I had enough fabric. Other layouts would have required me to dip deeper into my stash or buy more fabric. The only thing I had to use from my stash for this one was the inner border fabric and binding. The binding was actually leftovers from my binding bin. They are several different black fabrics but it is hard to tell that from the photo. You can really only tell they are different fabrics up close.

The quilt finishes at 46" by 54". My Cats Cradle units finish at 4". I quilted this one myself using my Q20.
