Art Group Project :: A Finish - finally!

 Well, I just did a search to figure out how long ago I finished the top of this project. 

Answer: Dec 7, 2016! 

It has been basted and ready for quilting since March of 2017.

I needed something to quilt recently to get someone's mid-arm machine working. This is all that I had that was already basted and ready to go. Sadly that is the only reason this one got finished, but I'm glad it is finally done!

Untitled :: A Finish

This one took far too long to finish, but I'm excited to finally have it finished!

Click here to read my last post about this project. I started this in 2012. I finished quilting it in 2017 and then it got lost in my sewing room. I recently spent 3 hours cleaning in my sewing room and found this under a pile of other stuff. So I picked a binding fabric from my stash and "got 'er done." This project was inspired by the backing fabric. I didn't take a photo of the back when I finished this but if you click here you can see a photo of the backing fabric from a past post.

In shop news, we are getting ready to celebrate our 4th anniversary at the end of this month. It is hard to believe that I have been a shop owner for four years, but it is true. 

UFO Progress

This one has been in progress for quite some time. The last time I showed it to you was in November 2014! Click here to read that post.

Recently I put the final quilting stitches in!

I'm not sure if I want to put binding on this or a facing or something else. I'll think about it for a bit. Obviously I'm in no hurry to get this finished!

Art Group Project :: Part 4

At this point we have completed 5 of 6 rounds. This is what mine looks like at the moment.

It's about 34" square at the moment. We'll get our instructions for our last border technique next week.

Art Group Project :: Part 3

We have completed three rounds at this point and this is what mine looks like at the moment.

The first border is migrating geese, the second is improv piecing and the third is "3-D". I interpreted that as a flange, the thin black line around the outside. We received our instructions for the fourth round on Tuesday. I already have my plan. I just need time to do it.

A Friday Finish :: Scrappy Log Cabin

It's done and already hanging in my dining room.

I quilted it simply with just lines. They aren't straight lines and they aren't evenly spaced. Many of the logs are not straight or square and they aren't all one size so I didn't want the quilting to be too precise.

We had fresh snow so I decided to try laying the quilt on the snow for a photograph. I prefer the straight on shot but it turned out okay.

I wish I had a way to get up higher so I could take a better picture with the quilt laying on the ground. I'd have to drag out a ladder, which isn't going to happen, so I will stick with clipping quilts to the fence for now.

On Wednesday my scrap group met. We were a smaller group because of the weather and the crud that is going around this area right now, but we had a great time. It was nice to get out of the house and go sew with friends! I taught them how to do this quilt. So I made another block and turned it into a second pillow.

You can see the first pillow if you click on the link: first pillow. As you can see in that post (if you clicked the link), I quilted the first pillow with straight lines using my walking foot. For this second pillow I used one of the stitches on my machine and quilted wavy lines, still using the walking foot. I like them both. It is nice that they are essentially the same but they aren't perfect matches.

Modern Monday :: A Finish

The first finish of 2015.

It was a long process to make the blocks, but so much fun especially since I was doing them with my friend Caroll who blogs for her LQS, Attic Window Quilt Shop. It was hard for me to stick with such a limited color palette but I'm glad I resisted the urges to introduce another color.

The quilting took quite a while but it was good practice. I'm pretty confident with this new-to-me design. Here are some closeups of a couple blocks so you can see the quilting better.

I purchased the backing last year and got the binding over a year ago.

I don't have a real plan for this quilt other than I plan to keep it. The finished size is 64" by 64". I'm not usually a fan of square quilts, but I am very please with this one. I'll leave you with one more full shot, minus the cat.

UFO Progress

I'm finally quilting a small improv pieced top I last blogged about in September 2012. Click here to go to that post.

I was surprised to discover that it has been waiting so long for me to get back to it. I don't even remember what, if anything, I had planned for the quilting besides the fact that I wanted to hand quilt it densely. I have done some ditch stitching to hold things in place. Now I am just filling the spaces with whatever occurs to me at the time.

The blocks are together!

It measures about 64.5" by 64.5" right now. I used four colors for the sashing, all Kona solids: white, ash, medium gray and black pepper.

It will go onto the "to be quilted" list which is rather lengthy at the moment. At least I don't have to worry about losing one of the blocks anymore. I may lose the entire top, but at least all the blocks are together!

This photo was taken in our front yard. Goldie loves to nap in the shade of the cat mint. She is shielded from the street in this position. I woke her up when I opened the front door to take the picture which is why she has such a sleepy look on her face!

Block 27:

I opted to make something different than Jenifer last week.

This week we are making a pansy block. I love pansies! Go over to Caroll's at Attic Window Quilt Shop to see what we were suppose to make last week. She is also advertising a biweekly block beginning in May that looks really fun.
