Goodies from Japan

Two friends went to the International Quilt Show in Japan at the end of January. One of them brought me some goodies which I only got photographed earlier this week.

Some fabrics, some embroidery floss, some silk ribbon, and my favorite, pre-made hexies. I have not been able to even open the packet of hexies yet because I will never be able to get them back in the package. I'm still dreaming up various ways to use these lovelies. When I get really excited about one of my ideas, I'll do it. Until then I plan to just enjoy looking at them.

Quilting My Hexa-Chevragon Quilt

I'm not even done, but I really love this one.

I started by stitching in the ditch around the columns of hexagons. Then went back and forth in the chevrons.

Aside: I have succumbed and gotten a Pinterest account. I'm "Alamosa Quilter" there too if you are interested in seeing the few things I've pinned so far.

Through Pinterest I found a new-to-me blog, The Inbox Jaunt and this tutorial. So I tried it.

Then I added ovals around the leaves.

While the light was still good I snapped a few more photos.

I hope to get this finished soon. I'm already thinking about what I will use for binding. I have a couple of good options in my stash.

Hexa-Chevragon Quilt Top

'Tis the season for new class sample sewing.

This is a Hexa-Chevragon quilt. I got the idea from the Crafty Fox blog. She cut her own hexagons. I used two packs of Honeycombs. I used her basic idea but had to figure out the measurements since my pre-cut hexagons must be a different size than the ones she cut.

My top is approximately 43" by 49". I have a few hexagons left over. The plan is to use them on the back. The fabric line is by Kate Spain for Moda, Sunnyside. The solid is Kona Ash.
