Pinwheel Blocks

I don't have much to show today, just these two pinwheel blocks.

These blocks will become part of my guild's 2015 raffle quilt. We purchased a packet of brightly colored 10" batik squares and some Kona white. The blocks will all be pinwheels. I think we need 48 pinwheel blocks. Then there will be some applique as a border or the center or both. I'm not exactly sure.

The rest of my sewing time has been spent working on my In Full Bloom, the 2014 Sue Spargo BOM. I'm still not able to post any photos of it but it is looking good, if I do say so myself. I'm finishing up the embroidery on the last block. Then I will be able to sew all the blocks together. My packet with the border fabrics and instructions is already here. My last packet with the backing, binding and a label is on it's way. It has been a fun year working on this project!

Guild Meeting

My guild met on Saturday. I took our finished raffle quilt to display.

The top was pieced by one of our members, Judy Freeark. It was quilted by another member, Peg Collins. I put the label, sleeve and binding on, which took up most of my sewing time last week since this is a big quilt (92" by 92"). The pattern is "Dreamscape" by Dereck C. Lockwood, used with permission.

Raffle Quilt Leftovers

I served on my guild's raffle quilt committee recently. I do not have a picture of the actual raffle quilt yet. We won't start selling tickets on it until next year. However, we grossly overestimated how many half-square triangle units we would need for the quilt and had a lot left over. So one of our members, Peg Collins, made this little quilt.

It is a generous crib size quilt. We plan to raffle it off among guild members. I sewed the binding and label on which is why I currently have the quilt.

Working Hard and Hardly Working

I have not dropped off the face of the Earth. Lately, every time I think about sitting down at the computer I realize that I could be sewing. So I sew instead. I am almost finished with the Cub Scout quilt - all that is left is sewing the binding down on the back - WHEW! I've got about half of my "modern rectangles" quilt quilted. This one

I've decided to quilt each rectangle using a different motif with the matching threads I bought.

It will add nice texture but the quilting lines will not be too distracting and interfere with the modern look I'm going for.

Tomorrow I am spending the day at my LQS sewing a quilt for my guild which will be used as our next raffle quilt. It's a bit of long story but the quilt top we were planning to use for next year's raffle can not be finished in time to sell tickets on it at an upcoming show. Someone, who shall remain nameless since I can't remember exactly who anyway, said that it would not be possible to create another quilt and have it ready in time so we would just have to miss the opportunity. One of my friends took that as a personal challenge and we are meeting to hopefully get the top pieced tomorrow. Her goal is to have the quilt completely finished by the next guild meeting in August (Aug. 21st to be precise). If we can get the top pieced or mostly pieced tomorrow then I don't see any reason it won't be ready by the August meeting. We met on Tuesday to finalize a pattern and pick/purchase fabrics. It's going to be really pretty!!
