Adorable Cowgirl Fabric and BlowOut Event Recap

First, I just have to share this adorable new fabric that arrived in my shop last week.

Hey Cowgirl Fabrics

The collection is called Hey CowgirlIt's got a little bit of a retro vibe to it and plenty of pink, coral and turquoise for that "girlie" cowgirl in your life. We've got several patterns in stock that would really show off these fabrics - quilts and bags.

I'm planning to make a Tourist Tote using the border print as the main fabric for the outside of the bag. I might use one of our new cork fabrics or faux leather fabrics for the bottom, but the Boots on Turquoise or the Cowgirl Postcards would also be adorable for the bottom of the bag. Either of the lighter background ones in the photo above, Hats or Horseshoes, would be perfect for the inside of the bag.

May BlowOut Event Recap

bolts emptied during the BlowOut Event

In the photo above are the 49 bolts that were emptied during our recent May Online BlowOut Event. Most of those fabrics were $4.99 per yard! This has been a very successful event for my shop. The next one will be in August 2024.

Tourist Tote

A customer told me about her favorite tote bag pattern recently. It's called the Tourist Tote. It looked like a good pattern and I had a good recommendation for the pattern, so I ordered several copies of it.

Then I had to make one!

Tourist Tote Shop sample using Serene Nature fabric collection

I used four prints from the new Serene Nature fabric collection that arrived recently. This is a very nice bag and a nice pattern. It's not a very complicated bag pattern but you could easily add some pockets (inside or outside between the handles). You could also add a magnetic snap or zipper to the top of the bag.

The top opening is 18 1/2" wide. At the bottom it's 12" wide. It's 12" tall and 7" deep. So it will hold a lot of stuff! It calls for Decor Bond interfacing on everything so it stands up nicely on it's own and is a good, sturdy bag.

The pattern and the individual fabrics are all available on my website.

However, if you'd like, I can make you a kit so that you can make a bag exactly like mine or you can let me know which fabrics you want me to use for your kit. The kit would include all of the fabrics for the bag plus the Decor Bond interfacing for $34.99. You'd need to purchase the pattern too, which is $10.99. I'd make you up a kit and then send you a direct link to purchase everything through my website with one click.

Secret Garden

These new fabrics arrived in my shop recently from Lewis & Irene.

Secret Garden Fabrics

The name of the collection is Secret Garden.

I think these are just so lovely! I couldn't resist making something up with these. I chose the Honor pattern from Villa Rosa Designs.

The main print is the one I used in the center of the quilt. Here is a close-up photo of it.

If you'd like to make one of these quilts too you need just one 1 yard of each print in the collection. If you are ordering the fabrics from my shop, you'd need to order a quantity of 2 of each fabric because I sell my fabrics online in 1/2 yard increments.

As a special offer for my readers, if you order a yard of each fabric in the collection (remember that's a quantity of 2 for each print), I'll include a FREE copy of the Honor pattern with your order. Just leave me a note when you check out that you are a blog reader and want a free copy of the Honor pattern.

Boxed Up Quilt

I got some new patterns in my shop recently.

Cluck Cluck Sew Patterns

Tick Tock, Tango, Simplify, and Boxed Up

I love all of the Cluck Cluck Sew patterns because they are all well-written and include fabric requirements and directions for several different sizes of quilt.

Also new in my shop is a fabric collection called Swatch.

I decided to use some of these fabrics and make the Boxed Up pattern.

I don't have it all sewn together yet but you get the idea. This is the crib size version.

London City Bag

I've had the London City Bag pattern in my shop for a while, but just got around to making up one. I shouldn't have waited so long!

London City Bag Sample

It's a Pink Sand Beach Designs pattern which means it's a good bag pattern. I opted to do the B version of the bag so the outside pocket is a single fabric instead of strips like is shown on the pattern.

On one side inside it has three pockets.

On the other side inside it has a zipper pocket.

The fabrics I used are from a new collection called Heirloom

Outside pocket fabric: Heirloom Flowers on Blue

Exterior Fabric: Heirloom Medallions on Rust

Strap Fabric: Heirloom Small Floral on Rust

Lining Fabric: Heirloom Teardrops on Brown

It's a pretty snazzy bag if I do say so myself!

Spirited

Sometimes I order fabric and when it comes it is sooo much better than I expected. This is one of those collections. It's called Spirited.

The collection has this gorgeous horse panel.

Spirited panel - a beautiful horse

A coordinating border stripe.

Spirited border print - with horses

And gorgeous coordinates in browns and teals.

You can view the entire collection in my online shop by clicking the following link: Spirited

I have a fairly simple quilt in mind for this collection that will feature the panel and border print, but I don't plan to use the border print as a border. You'll have to wait a bit for that though as I need time to get it made.

Sundance Sample Quilt Top Completed

I don't have this quilted yet, but the top is done.

Sundance Quilt Top

The pattern we used is a Villa Rosa Designs pattern called Quilters Palette. It finishes at 45" by 60". Again, the fabric collection we used is called Sundance. The binding will be the same red fabric we used for the inner border around the center fabric.

We made a little oopsy when cutting the center fabric and had to adjust the red inner border around the center, but it still works. When we cut kits for this we will be sure to adjust the yardage for the main fabric so that you could make the pattern correctly! The pattern is correct - we just didn't read carefully enough and cut that piece wrong for our sample. Rather than wasting the piece we had cut we decided to just make it work for the sample.

If you are interested in a kit you can let me know and I will send you the direct link to the kit on my website when they are ready. Then you can decide if you actually want to purchase it or not.

Songbird Serenade

These beautiful fabrics arrived while I was out sick and have been "flying" out the door - pun intended. The collection is called Songbird Serenade from P & B Fabrics.

The last photo is the panel. It's standard size 24" wide by width of fabric panel - so those birds are pretty big. They'd be great cut up and used for placemats or the outside of a tote bag. They would also make awesome throw pillows! Again, these fabrics are from the Songbird Serenade collection.

Sundance Fabrics

I am slowly getting back up to speed. My shop received a lot of fabric while I was out sick!

This is Sundance from Windham Fabrics.

File these under better late than never! These gorgeous western prints are a bit late in arriving (originally scheduled to arrive in March) but they are worth the wait. Lassos, horses, ranch wear, bandana paisleys and an awesome cattle drive print! I have a pattern in mind for these that will really show them off.

Sci Fi Fabric and a Birthday Pillowcase

I received a beautiful new collection from In the Beginning Fabrics last week - two months earlier than it was scheduled to be here! Believe me, that is a first of late! I am still missing orders from March, April and of course May of this year.

First the fabrics - Sci Fi fabric collection:

I used the border print to make a pillowcase for my boy for his birthday last week.

All of these fabrics are available both in my physical shop and in the online version of my shop. Click here to see them all in my online shop. The panel is huge at 54" by width of fabric (about 43" wide). Since it is so large there are fewer on the bolt so if you like this don't wait too long to order.

Vintage Camper Sewing Machine Cover

I had these in 2020 in turquoise and they sold out quickly. The fabric company decided to offer it again, but changed the turquoise to red for the re-release. Below is a photo of the original one that I made up to cover one of the Bernina 930 machines I have in the classroom at my shop.

Sewing Machine Cover Turquoise

Unfortunately, the turquoise color way is no longer available, but the red color way shown below just arrived.

Sewing Machine Cover Red

As you can see, it's a pre-printed panel with the instructions printed right on the fabric. All you have to do is cut it out and sew it together. It will make two sizes of cover. The large cover measures 17.5" by 12.5" by 8" and the small cover measures 15.5" by 11" by 7". Both sizes are printed on each panel and cut lines are clearly marked for each size. You simply decide which size your machine needs and cut on the appropriate lines. The sewing instructions are the same for both sizes. My Bernina 930 needed the smaller size.

Sewing Machine Cover Red

As you can see by comparing the photos, the only difference between the two is that the camper is red with white polka dots instead of turquoise. If you want one of these you better act fast, Vintage Camper Sewing Machine Cover. The turquoise ones sold out in just a couple weeks. I already looked to see if I can reorder these, but nope. What I have is what I have and that will be that.

Full Disclosure: On the turquoise one I did use an iron-on interfacing just to give it a little more umph. I used ShapeFlex interfacing. This really isn't necessary, but it has held up nicely to lots of handling.

6th Street Cottons

I am not normally drawn to this style of fabric - traditional - but these are just absolutely gorgeous! This is the second collection by Julie Letvin for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. It's called 6th Street Cottons.

6th Street Cottons Wide Backs

There are three wide backs (108" wide) fabrics in the collection.

There are 24 beautiful prints in blue, black, brown, gold, ivory/white/cream, pink, purple and green.

6th Street Cottons pre-cuts

And pre-cuts too - 2 1/2" Rolls-ups and 10" square sets. I also ordered Julie's first collection which came out a year ago. I still have some fabrics left from that collection, Homestead Harvest, and all of the prints from both collections mix very well together.
