Wildlife Trail Shop Sample

 This is the shop sample and kit I designed using the new Wildlife Trail fabrics my shop received recently.

The pattern was written by me specifically for this collection so it's only available in the kits. The quilt finishes at 60" by 76" (twin size). The kits are already listed in my online shop.

I didn't get the entire collection but got one color way of the fabrics, pre-cuts (2 1/2" strips and 10" squares) and the panel.

I can also make a few queen size kits. The queen size version would have 20 blocks (4 by 5) instead of just the 12 blocks in the twin size version. Queen kits are only available by contacting the shop directly as I only have a little of the fabrics left.  I finally have the pattern finished for the shop sample using the new Wild North fabric collection we received recently. I'm calling it Wild North Zoom Meeting. If you've ever attended a Zoom meeting in gallery view then you get it. I was picturing all these animals in their nests and dens on their laptops chatting with each other.

The quilt measures 42" by 50" - a great lap/baby size. It's not quilted yet and thus not bound. The binding will be the same fabric as the inner border. The cost of the kit is $64.99. The kit includes all of the fabrics required to piece the quilt top plus the binding fabric and the pattern. You'll need 1 1/2 yards of fabric for the backing. If you are purchasing the backing from my website then you need to put a quantity of 3 in your cart, which is equivalent to 1 1/2 yards. We will use the Wild North Wildlife in the Mountains Slate for the back of our sample. The pattern is an Alamosa Quilt Company exclusive pattern and not available separately as it was written specifically for this fabric collection by me.

New :: Whimsy Quilt Kit

 While the shop sample is not new, the kits for it are new.

The quilt measures 55" by 55" which is a good lap/wheelchair quilt, large baby quilt, or wall hanging size. The piecing is fairly simple, appropriate for an advanced beginner. The colored fabrics are from a charm pack. You cut the charm squares in half and use a folded corner technique to make four point units required for each block. There is a little sashing in the blocks then the blocks are just sewn together. A small outer border is added from the background fabric so that the design "floats" in the center. The binding fabric is the same fabric used for the little corner stones in the middle of each block.

The kit contains all of the fabrics required to make the top plus the binding fabric and the pattern. The kit is $74.99 and is available both in store and in my online shop.

Customer Show and Tell :: Nancy's Wild Stallion Quilt

 Nancy has her version of our Wild Stallions kit completely finished! We have two more kits left and not enough of the fabrics to make up more kits. We do still have some of the fabrics on the bolt and have a few more of the panels left in stock.

Note that Nancy opted to get extra fabric and the border print (which we are sold out of) to make a larger version of our kit. If you want to make a larger version like Nancy I suggest you substitute the all-over horse print for the border print. It's called "Stallion Stallions" in our online shop.

Animal Cracker Quilt :: A Finish

 I have another finish!

I used the blue version of the monkeys print for the back.

I made up several kits for this quilt if you want to make one too. The Animal Crackers Quilt Kit is $59.99 plus applicable tax and shipping. The kits include all of the fabrics for the top plus the binding fabric and the pattern, with my corrections to it as it includes an error as printed. But my kits included the corrected pattern!

Splendid Split Stars :: A Finish

 I finally completed the Splendid Split Stars quilt.

This took me much longer than it should have because I lost steam on the project. I'm sure you know how that can be! My main issue with finishing was that I sold all of the kits before I finished the shop sample. Then I thought, "why am I bothering to finish this when all the kits are sold?" Well, I finished because I didn't want another unfinished project AND because I might be able to make a few more kits with a couple substitutions for the fabrics I no longer have. I do have more patterns, Splendid Split Stars Pattern.

If I do decide to make more kits I'll let you know. Usually I don't like to do substitutions in shop kits but if it's just one or two that are really close in color and style to the original I don't mind - as long as we clearly mark on the kits which fabrics have been substituted. This is often easy to do with batiks, which is what this one is made with.

Splendid Split Stars

 I got a new pattern in my shop called Splendid Split Stars.

We made up some kits for this project. We kitted the throw size (54.5" by 72.5") in the batik fabrics below, which should mimic the quilt on the pattern cover pretty closely.

Cutting out this quilt can seem a bit daunting as there are 24 different fabrics in this quilt. However, once you get over the 2 1/2 pages of cutting information, you realize that you are only cutting three different sizes of squares from each fabric. Not too bad really. But you need to be organized. If I was going to travel anywhere with this project I would put my pieces in labeled zip bags. But I'm not taking it any where so I used sheets of paper folded in half. I wrote the letter of the fabric on the outside and tucked the cut pieces on the inside.

I only have three blocks made so far. The piecing is not hard, just plain squares, half square triangles and quarter square triangles, but again, you have to be organized.

I'm lovin' it so far. If you want a kit don't wait too long. We only had enough of these fabrics for a few kits.

All the fabrics in our kits are labeled for you so you don't have to guess which fabric goes where. The pattern is very good and even included pressing instructions for each block which I find super helpful.

Animal Magic Quilt :: A Finish

 Still in love with this one!

The finished size is 54" by 73". It is so warm and snuggly! I enjoyed sitting under it while hand sewing the binding to the back. Completely Smitten with this One

 These fabrics arrived on Tuesday of last week. The collection is called Animal Magic from Dashwood Studios.

On Wednesday I picked a pattern and cut everything out. On Thursday morning I pieced this quilt top.

The backing is the adorable fabric on the left and the binding is the mustard strips on the left. I kitted the quilt up too, Animal Magic Quilt Kit. It will finish at 54" by 73" - a nice twin size. Order it soon if you want one! These fabrics are selling rapidly because they are just way too cute.

A Finish :: My bright kids quilt

 I worked hard last week at the shop getting this adorable quilt finished up.

I put the hearts on black fabric from the collection on the back.

And here is another shot of the finished quilt.

The quilt finishes at 54" by 65" and I made up a few kits. Originally I was planning on using a rainbow stripe fabric for the binding. It looked fine, but felt a little busy to me. So I opted for the bright lime green dot fabric from the collection instead.

The pattern is not difficult. A confident beginner could easily make this project.

Woodland Winter Quilt Kit :: A Finish

 Finally got the cat to let me get this one quilted and bound.

This one is called Woodland Winter Quilt Kit. It finishes at 75" by 75" and is a beginner friendly kit. The only piecing involved is the four nine patches and eight large half-square triangles. The rest of the piecing is just sewing the units together in a five by five grid.

The four large printed blocks are from a panel, which is of course, included in the kits. Unfortunately, I don't have any more panels, besides the ones in the kits. And honestly, I don't have much of the fabrics included in the kits either. It's been a very popular collection, Woodland Winter.

Autumn Art

 These gorgeous fabrics arrived earlier this week. I already had the samples made as the shop kit arrived a couple months ago. The collection is called Autumn Art from In the Beginning Fabrics.

The Autumn Art Kit makes all three projects. The kits include the fabrics for the front of all three projects plus the binding for all three projects and the pattern. You'll notice that I opted to leave off the binding on the pillow cover. I have a very limited number of kits so if you want a kit you should order pretty soon.

Spirited Quilt

 This is what I did with the Spirited fabrics and panel.

The details: the quilt will finish at 49" by 60". The Spirited Quilt kits are available for $59.99. The kit includes the exact fabrics used in the sample for the quilt top, plus the binding and the pattern. The binding will be Spirited Teal Mottled fabric from the collection. 

I have a very limited number of these kits left and not enough fabric to make more. Several folks bought kits before I even had the sample finished! Just based on my crappy drawing and the fabrics.

Summer Song made with Favorite Things

 I just pulled this quilt out last week to display in the shop.

Check out the great quilting pattern my long arm quilter used.

The fabrics I used are from a collection called Favorite Things and the binding fabric is my current favorite binding fabric, Magic Stripe in Black and White.

I have a few kits available for this fun quilt and enough fabric left to make a few more, Summer Song Kit.

Patriotic Splendor Quilt :: A Finish

 Sometimes a fabric line arrives and I get an idea for a project really quickly. That was the case with this collection.

The panel is great as are all the coordinates. I used a black Grunge for the border around the panel and the binding. The pattern calls for 7 fat quarters but I only got 5 coordinates so I added two other patriotic themed fabrics from the shop to round out the quilt.

For the back I used yet another patriotic themed fabric from my shop.

It turned out so well that I kitted it up. Many of my kits come in these really nice reusable project bags.

The finished size of the quilt is 56" by 59". If you added an inner border of the black grunge then an outer border of another patriotic themed fabric you could easily make this a bit bigger.

Flannel Plaid Star Quilt :: A Finish

 I received a bunch of new plaid flannels recently, Scrappenstance designed by Kim Deihl. They are so pretty that I felt I just had to design something using this collection. Here it is, Flannel Plaid Star.

The quilt finishes at 64" by 80". We made up a few kits if you want to make one too. The kits are $99.99 and include all the fabric for the front plus the binding and the pattern. Backing fabric is NOT included but you will need 4 yards of regular width fabric or 2 yards of wide back.

Originally I picked another one of the plaids from the collection for the backing, but then I saw this bolt of "animal portraits" I have from another collection. The animals were spaced out almost perfectly to fit on the back so I changed my mind and used it instead. My long arm quilter did a great job of getting the backing design centered.

This is the first completely flannel quilt I have made in a while. It is really warm! I had to keep moving it off of me as I was sewing the binding down on the back because I was roasting!
